Sound was my first language.

I studied Creative Writing in the Mississippi Delta, but I have always been rooted in authentic sound and music from a deep familial, musical root while growing up in one of the birthplaces of American music and soul, Memphis, Tennessee.

Although I thought I wanted to be a writer, I began to understand that:

Sound is poetry.

Sound is our stories.

Sound is nostalgia.

Sound is the heart of culture.

My interest in sound is part of my DNA. Translated my name means “a poet who travels accompanied with music.” As a child all my time was spent absorbing the performances of my Gibson guitar playing father and many others at our culturally rich, live-music driven, fish fries around Memphis and The South. It instilled within me an endless curiosity of the links and origins sounds and music.

As a late teen, I was a sound engineering intern at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis. Later I worked with the esteemed Mississippi Records label in Portland, produced electronic music, and built an international Dj and radio career rooted in sonic storytelling.

I have always been driven by a need to connect sonically, to help others connect with one another, with the desire to help change the world for better. My move to LA was another chapter in applying my soul’s purpose to practice. From composing and post sound editing, I discovered another outlet for my calling as a Production Sound Mixer.

I have worked around the globe on projects ranging from narratives, commercial campaigns, to Emmy and Oscar nominated documentaries. Whether the project is big or small, I come with the same strong work ethic, precision, and dedication to every shoot. As a department lead, I am an organized, proficient, audio engineer, who anticipating needs, problem solves quickly, and pivots without friction.

For me, production sound is not only technical — it is relational.

Being on set I carry the feeling of being of service to others, which makes my soul sing! I have a team spirit and feel fulfilled by helping physically as well as energetically.

Location sound is an immensely rewarding career, and a source of profound, personal growth. There are few places I would rather be than on set supporting these visionary and creative voices.

Because in the end, sound carries our stories home.
